Working Areas

Despite the efforts of the government of Nepal to establish equitable and just societies, there are dozens of challenges, tensions and inequalities going on in the societies. Gender based discrimination and violence have been the most challenging issues among many other prevalent concerns.  Hence, to realize the constitutional aspirations, national and international policies and resolutions, we have to take some steps to end the prevailing gender based discrimination and violence. In these remarks, WSI, Nepal aims to support the government of Nepal to sort out the situation at the ground level and set activities in compliance with the national goals. 

Refer below are the key thirst working areas of the WSI, Nepal:

Human Rights, Democracy and Sustainable Development

  • Champaign, advocacy or trainings to raise awareness on human rights, democracy and sustainable development
  • Consultation or the counselling services in these issues
  • Thematic studies or researches
  • Workshops, seminars or the conferences on the respective theme and issues
  • Network of women engaged in diverse sectors; human right activist, women entrepreneurs, social activists,  media persons etc to raise collective voices, to grow and make impact together

Election Focused

  • Campaign for free, fair, timely and credible election
  • Campaign for equal participation of women on candidacy (advocacy, dialogue especially among all major political parties, election commission, possible women candidate/ women leader from various sector)
  • Campaign for voter education through various means such as radio, TV, social media, training, education, jingle
  • Election monitoring, observation or the supervision during electoral process (Pre- During and Post-Preparing and mobilizing women, youth and reporting, documentation)
  • Organize political literacy or related workshops/seminars/symposiums

National Plan of Action on Security Council Resolution on Women, Peace and Security 1325 and 1820

  • National dialogue among stakeholder about its status, plan and the way forward
  • Research on the situation of women affected by conflict and their role in peace process in Nepal (Based on 3-4 specific issues of ex PLA)
  • Research Sharing among stakeholder
  • Small economic support to those needed for the entrepreneurship linking with local government
  • Province and local level dialogue on NAP 1325 and 1820
  • Case studies findings and linking with TRCs area of work

SDGs Focused

  • Awareness building for youth, women and elected body of local level government on SDG; linkage on local plan, local voluntary review focusing on goal five, ten and sixteen.
  • Providing fellowship to journalist to showcase the case studies of women related with GOAL five, ten and sixteen (wages, care work, GBV, SRHR, participation in decision making).
  • Radio program on My SDG
  • Prepare and Lunch VNR via CSO on GOAL five, ten and sixteen
  • Expert Café on SDG (A monthly discussion on various issues related with SDG- virtually and physically)
  • Yoga, meditation or the retreat program
  • Health related programs

Women on Climate Justice

  • Training on DRRM; Empowering Women for Climate Change Resilience
  • Women team development at local level working with ward committee women groups, local government and stakeholder
  • Province, Local and Ward level measurement
  • She leads: Safe house, safe cities campaign
  • Widely Informing on DRRM Act, Policy and Action Plan made by Government of Nepal
  • Enhance Women Participation in DRR Process, Policy making and representation in high level dialogue.
  • Conducting case studies or the researches on women and climate change etc
  • Work for green economy
  • Tourism

Women Entrepreneurship

  • Organize workshops/seminars to explore the best possible areas for women entrepreneurship
  • Provide entrepreneurial and financial trainings
  • Support in connecting the entrepreneurial ecosystem actors to each other
  • Small grant for youth and women working/ planning on innovation, technology and eco-friendly entrepreneurship

Mobilization

  • Mobilize young people to eliminate prevailing decriminalization, injustice or the suppression
  • Mobilize young people to raise awareness on social harmony, peace and security

Legal Empowerment / Service (Legal Helpdesk)

  • Still lots of women and marginalized group are out of access to justice because of not having proper knowledge on legal system and money they offer for lawyer therefore Lawyer team of WSI is committed to provide free legal support.
  • Main target are youth and women from the family of conflict victim, Returnee Migrant workers, vulnerable GBV, marginalized community. AS WDF has strong team from legal background facilitate the case freely and provide legal aid and support for those who is in need.

 3E: Engage, Enable and Empower

  • Engage through campaign, symposium, dialogue, discussion, participation, mobilization, experience exchange, network
  • Enable through trainings, mentor, services, grants, consultation, guidelines, orientation
  • Empower through policy, budget, resource mobilization, access to information, leadership, decision making roles, cultural transformation etc
